About Us!
The Blacksburg Sports Club consists of about 600 members**... women, men, and corporate... who allowed us to contribute over $10,000.00, from our dues and other income, to the athletic departments of both Virginia Tech and Blacksburg High School in 2007-2008.
New members, guests, and visitors are welcome to attend the Wednesday Buffet Luncheons held during the academic year (August through May), and monthly throughout the summer.
- Cost for lunch is $7.00
- Food Service begins at 11:30 AM, at Custom Catering, located at the corner of North Main Street and Patrick Henry Drive. (Click on "Map" on left of page for map of the area.)
- The complete program, with lunch, runs from noon until 1:00 PM; therefore, one may enjoy the entire program during lunch hour.
- Speakers from the Virginia Tech and Blacksburg High School Athletic Departments, with an occasional "outside" speaker, inform and entertain our membership.
- You may pay the annual individual membership dues of $20 ($30 per couple) at any weekly meeting, and they are good for one year -- July 1 to June 30.
Our Mission
To support local varsity athletic programs, primarily those of Blacksburg High School and Virginia Tech, and to provide a setting for fellowship and education around a sports theme.
Our Vision
Luncheon meetings feature local sports figures -- coaches, trainers, athletes, behind-the-scenes staff, media personalities – and the occasional opposing coach, ACC official, or referee. The environment will be one that is known by the speakers to be “safe,” that is, non-threatening and able to speak “off the record.” Evening meetings reach out to a broader audience, with speakers of state and national fame – all within the field of sports. Membership is open to anyone who has an interest in Blacksburg area sports; net income will be used to support Blacksburg High School (BHS) and Virginia Tech (VT) athletic programs.
We will upgrade our facilities to make the experience of attending a meeting one that is both informative and enjoyable. Audio visual equipment will enable every attendee to hear and see what is being presented; the website will be continually upgraded to better address the changing needs and desires of our membership. Food service will be monitored to ensure the best dollar value, while providing attendees with a nourishing and healthy main meal… or a light lunch if desired.
The club will participate in and/or sponsor various fund-raising events to generate additional support for the athletic programs at Blacksburg High School and Virginia Tech. These events will be open to the public and will have a sports theme. Profits will be used to fund major projects at the two schools, to support under funded athletic programs, to endow a VT scholarship, and to promote excellence throughout the athletic departments of Blacksburg High School and Virginia Tech.
We will continue to be seen as a valuable partner in the success of the athletic program for these two institutions.
